Making wholesome American-made baking products since 1790.There’s nothing like the smell of delicious treats baking in the oven. And with the holidays just around the corner, a lot of us have baking on our minds. So what’s the one key ingredient to all that baking? Flour.
While there are many types of flour on the market, all flours are not created equal. Many of the most popular flours found on your store shelf contain harmful chemicals such as bleach and bromides, and may use foreign-sourced wheat.
That is not the case with flours from The King Arthur Flour Company. The company’s flour is milled from 100 % U.S.-grown wheat. It is also unbleached and unbromated, and available in a variety of styles including organic whole wheat, unbleached cake flour, white wheat, all-purpose and bread flour. They also a sell a variety of baking mixes and ingredients as well.
Founded in Boston, MA, in 1790, King Arthur is America’s oldest flour company. Now headquartered in Norwich, Vermont, it is 100% employee-owned by its 160 employees. The company is located in a 16,600-square-foot timber-frame structure called, appropriately, Camelot.
King Arthur flours are available in every state and can usually be found at your local supermarket or specialty food stores.
In addition to its flour business, King Arthur Flour also sells baking equipment and ingredients through its catalog, on its website and at its Norwich flagship store, The Baker’s Store.
While King Arthur Flour does sell some bakeware made in Asia, they do offer a line of American-made, eco-friendly baking pans made by USA Pans of Crescent Township, PA, the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial bakeware. In addition, King Arthur also sells top-of-the-line bakeware made by Doughmakers of Terra Haute, Indiana.
In 2009, the King Arthur Flour Company was named one of the best five large companies to work for in Vermont.
